The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) was established on 30 November 1965 as a chartered international organisation whose purpose is to promote cooperation in education, science and culture in the Southeast Asian region.

ASEAN discusses with SEAMEO the development of an ASEAN education work plan

A team of consultants for ASEAN composed of Mr Frank Schorn, Education Advisor and Ms Julia A Loedin, Training Specialist visited SEAMEO Secretariat on 9 August 2010 at the SEAMEO Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand.

SEAMEO Secretariat and UNESCO participate in a local traditional "merit-making" activity in Thailand

The SEAMEO Secretariat and UNESCO organized a joint merit-making activity called "Thod-Pha-Pa" on 7 August 2010 at the Wat Dhammamongkol Temple in Bangkok, Thailand. "Thod-Pha-pa" is a Buddhist traditional event which is organized during the Buddhist Lent period beginning 27 July to 23 October 2010.  During this time, Buddhist monks are required to remain in temples for contemplation and meditation.  It is also the time for renewed spirit for laymen.

Head masters and teachers of vocational education in agriculture visit SEAMEO Secretariat

Twenty-one head masters and teachers of Vocational Education in Agriculture from various provinces of Indonesia visited SEAMEO Secretariat and other institutions in Thailand on 1-7 August 2010. The purpose of the visit to the SEAMEO Secretariat and to Thailand was to learn about Thailand's programmes and good practices on vocational education in agriculture which could be adopted and adapted in Indonesia.

SEAMEO Executive Committee convenes second meeting

The SEAMEO Executive Committee convened its second meeting on 23 July 2010 at the SEAMEO Secretariat Office in Bangkok, Thailand.  The Committee presided, over by the Philippines, deliberated on issues largely pertaining to the operations and performance of the SEAMEO Secretariat and the SEAMEO Regional Centres. Committee Members for 2010 included Brunei Darussalam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. Vietnam was not represented at the meeting.  The Members were appointed from among the High Officials of the SEAMEO Member Countries.

The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Thailand organized an integrated special training course for educational leaders, titled IIDEA-SEAMEO Capacity Building Programme for 21st Century Educational Leaders on 5-19 July 2010 at NIDTEP, Thailand.

Representatives from the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) visited the SEAMEO Secretariat on 22 June 2010 to discuss on a project called "The Development of Learning Materials on Asia Folklores in Southeast Asia and Korea".

SEAMEO Secretariat pays tribute to the former Counselor of Education, the Australian Embassy

Dato' Dr Ahamad bin Sipon, Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat paid tribute in honor of Ms Anne Reynolds, former Counselor (Education), Australian Educational International (AEI), the Australian Embassy at the Baan Kanittha Restaurant in Bangkok on 21 June 2010.

The Director of SEAMEO Secretariat presented a plaque of appreciation to Ms Reynolds on the occasion of her retirement and in recognition of her valuable contribution to SEAMEO.

SEAMEO Secretariat collaborates with other organizations to provide training on ICT for a Thai school

The SEAMEO Secretariat in collaboration with the Information Technology Project under the Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Pintar Learning SDN BHD, Malaysia organized a two-day training programme on the use of the Pintar Learning System for teaching and learning on 3-4 May 2010 at the Suksa Songkroh Bangkruey School, Nonthaburi Province, Thailand.

MOE Thailand meets with SEAMEO Secretariat

MOE Thailand meets with SEAMEO Secretariat on initial plans to set up an institute for education administrators

A team of officials and experts from the National Institute for Development of Teachers, Faculty Staffs and Education Personnel (NIDTEP), Ministry of Education, Thailand met with the SEAMEO Secretariat on 29 March 2010 at the SEAMEO Secretariat Office, Bangkok, Thailand to discuss initial plans on the establishment of the International Institute for the Development of Education Administrators (IIDEA).
